Thrive Pathway Activity 58

Meet Regularly With A Spiritual Mentor

Mentor is defined as “a wise and trusted counselor or teacher.” Although the word does not appear in scripture, the concept is common. Numerous people throughout scripture reveal mentoring relationships. Three clear examples would be Samuel and Eli (I Samuel 1-4), Barnabas and Paul (Acts 9-15), and of course, Jesus and his disciples (Luke 9). The mentoring process just makes sense. Life is easier when you have access to, and help from, someone who has gone this way before.

Scripture:

I Corinthians 11:1
“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me, put into practice.”

Details:

  • Find someone you look up to, someone who has a stronger relationship with God than you do and ask if they would be willing to mentor you.
  • Realize that mentoring doesn’t need to be a formal process. It can be as simple as meeting regularly to talk about life and how to live it in Christ.
  • Remember that no formal training is necessary, and a person need only be a few steps ahead of you to lead the way.
