Youth Mission Trip to New Orleans — July 2nd

Southcliff Students Mission Trip in New Orleans

Southcliff Student ministry had the wonderful privilege to serve in the heart of New Orleans June 22 – 26. We had 33 students and 5 adults who teamed up with Mission Lab at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary to serve in a variety of ways.

We were split up into 3 teams when we arrived. Each morning each team had the opportunity to minister to children. Team 1 worked with a summer day camp at the seminary. Each morning included playing, swimming, VBS songs and teaching Bible lessons. Team 2 put on a VBS at a local church every morning. This consisted of games, music and teaching. Team 3 had “GAME DAYS” at the park. They would invite kids in from the area, play games, and have a teaching time. Our students were well prepared and did a great job serving.

The afternoons consisted of yard work for the elderly, serving food and praying with the homeless, serving at a food bank, and serving at a day care for the elderly.

In the evenings Mission Lab provided a pastor and worship band to lead us and encourage us. We also were able to spend time as a group touring the city and listening to stories on how God was working in each students life.

Overall it was a great experience. Our students worked hard, were patient and flexible and grew closer to the Lord and each other through serving on this trip.

After serving in New Orleans with MissionLab, my hope is that our students are not only equipped to share the gospel in their everyday life but that their eyes are opened to our needs right here in Fort Worth. My desire is that they understand that missions isn’t just a trip you take, but it’s a life that Christ has called us all to lead.
